Programs for children ages 3 months to 14 years
Our Programs
Montessori education at The Children's House guides and celebrates the development of independent and responsible young people. To learn about the curriculum and prepared Montessori environments of our classrooms, please read about our programs for children from infancy through the adolescent years.
Nido (Infant)
The Children’s House environment for infants ages three to 18 months is called Nido, Italian for "nest". In this unique setting, infants are nurtured and cared for in a calm and peaceful environment. These earliest experiences are carefully shaped to set the stage for all of the years to come.
Young Children’s Community (Toddler)
For toddlers, our Young Children’s Community (YCC) includes children from 16 months (or confidently walking) to three years old. Under the guidance of nurturing adults, a child in this environment learns how to gain independence by doing. Children entering this program participate in activities that promote independence, concentration, and sense of accomplishment.
Primary (Preschool)
The Primary program at The Children’s House is a curricular cycle for children approximately three to six years old. Each multi-age Primary classroom includes a trained Montessori teacher (or “guide”) and assistants. The emphasis in this classroom setting centers around independent work, movement, grace and courtesy, healthy living, and the introduction to basic reading, writing, cultural studies, and mathematics.
Elementary
The elementary program is organized into two, three-year cycles. The first is Lower Elementary which includes first through third grade students. Upper Elementary continues with fourth through sixth grade students. These programs are based upon a rigorous, research-based curriculum that centers on mathematics, social studies, science, English language arts, and personal growth and development.
Junior High
Compass Montessori Junior High empowers each 7th and 8th-year student to imagine their direction in life as they embark on their journey from adolescence to adulthood. Our curriculum offers a wealth of information, ideas, and experiences that foster an ever-expanding concept of self and community. Students explore their unique interests and challenge themselves to consider how diverse individuals, communities, and cultures perceive and engage with one another.
Specials
All classrooms have regularly scheduled gym time to allow for healthy physical activity. Starting in Kindergarten, students get to experience more specials outside their classroom, including daily Physical Education and monthly Art and Music. Elementary students have daily and weekly lessons in Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, and Spanish. Kitchen Classroom, and Della Terra (gardening and botany) are also experienced.
Extracurriculars
Organized team sports and clubs provide an opportunity for students to compete, play, and learn about a sport or activity they are interested in. Aspects of health and character are developed around competition, including teamwork, individual goals, cooperation, how to win and lose, confidence, humility, and good sportsmanship. Our extracurricular programs foster an environment that supports our children in becoming the best versions of themselves.
Food & Nutrition Program
Our food program is devoted to enhancing children’s health and wellness. We provide students with tasty, nutritious, sustainably sourced, and culturally diverse lunches. Because nutrition influences a child’s development, health status, and learning potential, we encourage healthy eating habits through meaningful interactions with food in the classrooms. We prioritize buying produce from neighboring farms, organic meats and dairy products, and whole-grain snacks.
Early Care & Friends Club
The Children's House offers childcare before school (7:30 to 8:30 a.m.) and afterschool (3:30 - 5:30 p.m.) daily for enrolled students.
Summer at The Children’s House
Grab your sunscreen, bring along your imagination, and get ready for a summer full of wonder, friendship, and unforgettable memories. The Children’s House Summer Program offers a rich and engaging summer experience for children 3 months to 13 years. The Nido, YCC and Primary Summer programs offer a rich and engaging summer experience that blends our prepared Montessori environments with the fun of a classic summer camp. The Elementary Summer programs will explore various themes through outdoor and indoor activities. Many weeks culminate with an excursion off campus.
